In June 2019, a storm caused the collapse of the rickhouse storing Blue Note's inventory, spilling barrels and causing significant damage. Despite the destruction, some barrels survived. Over the next four months, the elements took their toll on the exposed barrels, with summer heat driving the bourbon deep into the oak and thunderstorms causing rust and damage. As fall arrived, the whiskey was forced back out of the oak. After cleaning up the wreckage and assessing the barrels, the company discovered that some had survived. To celebrate resilience, they've selected a few of these survivor barrels to release under the Blue Note Bourbon Uncut label. In the future, not every barrel in this line will be a survivor, so if you want to savor a truly rare bourbon with an extraordinary story, consider trying a bottle from the 2021 survivor barrel.
